Aokigahara Forest

Signs display messages like
"Life if a precious thing! Please reconsider!"

Aokigahara Forest is a woodland that locates at the base of Mount Fuji in Japan. This place is widely known for its creepiness among Japanese because more than 500 people committed suicide here since 1950s. The trend started when Seicho Matsumoto published his novel, Black Sea of Trees. The story takes place in Aokigahara Forest where two characters commit suicide. So, in the 1970s, the government began searching for bodies annually, and in 2002, they found 78 bodies.

  1. Even though it does sound creepy that people have commited suicide in that forest, I think it's stupid that they did it just because of a book. Yes, it is true that books have a great impact on the reader, but they can learn from the mistakes of the characters, and not do the same stupid things.
I would defiantly be scared to go to that forest.
