The Selfie

The other day one of my friends showed me this video created by Dove. It's all about seflies. It's sounds kind of odd at first, but watch the video and you'll understand the message Dove is trying to get across to not only young teens, but adults nowadays as well. I love their message of embracing your own beauty and simply stop comparing ourselves to the bar that media and society has set. This goes for both girls AND boys. :) So many times in our lives we judge ourselves against others and it's not healthy in the slightest way. Everybody is different and so is their beauty, but I think that differences make us who we are. Why spend your life beating yourself up and trying to look or be like someone else? Just a thought. :)

Enjoy this video! It's a bit long, but the message is worth it. :)

  1. I liked this video. I especially liked the part where it showed the pictures of the girls hanging up. I thought it was sweet and touching. Everyone should learn something from this!

  2. I agree with Lily! There are so many lessons you can learn from this video, whether you're a girl OR a guy! I think it is so important to love yourself for who you are, to not compare yourself to others but to accept you for you. I like that new perspective on selfies and how to take them. What an inspiring video.

  3. That is an amazing video with a lovely message. I like the idea of that workshop. It gives you a chance to demonstrate your beauty. It's extremely inspiring.

  4. I really learned from this video because I know that I'm not perfect but there are times where look in the mirror and I feel like I am not pretty. Yet, I still love how there are some features that no one else has. Like my hair and my eyes. Yeah sure I'm not blonde, or tall, or really skinny, as the girl referenced in the video, but at least I am blessed with a great life and personality and that's all that matters.

    1. You're exactly right Dania. We all have features and things about us that make us unique and that make us, us!
(P.S. You ARE pretty just the way you are!)

  5. I agree with the video. Beauty isn't what they put on TV or on magazines. Make up companies and other product companies play with our insecurity to sell their products. They trick us saying that we need the products to look beautiful, but we don't. We are all naturally beautiful. I love what Dania said, I may not be perfect, but I am unique and that is all that matters. We don't need anything on our face to be beautiful, we already are.

  6. I think selfies are useless when you are taking a photo every single moment. I agree that you should appreciate your beauty, but I don't really think selfies should be uploaded everyday. It's irritating for some people to see 100+ pictures you see on SNS.

    1. I believe that the selfie is the saddest human creation in the history of ever. I see no worth while purpose to it. This video has a great message but another message should be do not partake in what will ,hopefully and if there is any justice in the world, be humanities biggest mistake.

  7. Even though I myself take selfies with my friends, I believe that the original pictures (the ones taken by someone else) are so much better. Selfies never really capture a moment, only your expression.
I liked the video though. I think it was great how the video did not only show beautiful girls like in much videos and commercials, which I think was the main point.

  8. I like this video because you are always beautiful and don't let anybody change that. you are who you are and don't let people change you. Be yourself and let people be themselves. Don't change you are beautiful don't change yourself. Be really you not anybody else than you.

  10. I really like this video, it's pretty cool. I think more people should see this because it helps girls realize that they are pretty and beautiful and all that crap that everyone wants to be, in their own way. It helps you realize you're not alone. I've heard so many people mention an insecurity, while in my head I'm thinking "wow, that's one of the things that I like about her". I don't know, it's just perspective I guess. Nice video!

  11. I really liked this video. It showed that the things that you may not like about yourself are the things that make you unique and you. The things that people like about you may be the things you hate or the things that make you beautiful.

  12. This was an interesting video. Its sorta odd though like how they set it up.... like with the exhibition and stuff. I wouldn't want people to put my face out in public like that.

  13. I think that girls shouldn't compare themselves to the girls, because they are alright the way they are.
