The Ghost Town Kijong-Dong

Lets be honest, at one point in time or another we have tried to show off. Odds are it failed pretty badly.  We might pretend to be older or use bigger words to look smart. I remember one time I skated over a guy, but you don't want to hear that boring story. My real purpose is to show you one of the greatest examples of showing off ever, the North Korean ghost town of  Kijong-dong.  Kijong-dong (also known as peace village) was built in the demilitarized Zone in North Korea in the 1950s. This lovely farming Village can house two hundred people, and has everything A person could ask for, a daycare center, a hospital, and primary and secondary schools, this village even has electricity! However, the only people who visit this town are paid actors, who have to pretend that they live there! The houses aren't even properly built, according to pictures and people with telescopes, the houses are hollow shells and the windows are don't even have glass. This town is supposed to showcase the amazing, Farmville type life that all North Koreans lead. Apparently the North Korean leaders hope that seeing this will convince South Koreans to come over to North Korea. There is no word on how successful they were, but  at least they are dreamers, and if Disney has taught us anything it's that if you dream hard enough anything can happen. By the way I loathe Frozen and Divergent with a burning passion, and even the names make me die a little inside....just kidding, happy late April fools!

  1. Again Kelly, great post. Great plot twist and everything, I would never have guessed this type of thing existed. However, I'm still not totally surprised due to North Korea's past antics. I just wonder which North Korean lunatic leader (leanatic?) dreamt this up. Kudos.

  2. Wow, it would be so much fun to get go karts with paintball guns and have a mini paintball war in a huge city. Or if you had hints and a map and played hide and seek.

  3. Wow! That is really an odd thing for them to do. But yeah, like Chris said I'm not very surprised. It sort of seems like North Korea would do something like this. I bet it's probably pretty erie to be inside there, for the paid actors who do go there. Well, thanks for sharing! I enjoyed your post. :)

  5. This is really weird, but not surprising. It would be really creepy to live there. I don't think I would move to that place even if they pay me. It seems that North Korea is desperate to have more people. Thanks for sharing, it was an interesting post!

  6. OKay.. thats pretty cool and weird at the same time. I don't get how that would fool anyone, but maybe it has. Its weird that they would set that up only for that purpose but I guess North Koreans are pretty crazy... I really doubt that t South Koreans would fall for that, but you never really know. Seoul Looks a lot better then that creepy place... I sure wouldn't want to leave.

  7. The thing i wonder is how much money do these actors get. This is a communist country so I wonder if these people get paid more for their contribution to this lie. I hope this whole north and south korea end. It has gone to far, and this is a very good example.

  8. This is pretty interesting. Kelly, you always have such cool things as posts! It's a nice break to read about different things from places all over the world. I wonder what the people in North Korea think about this. Also, loved your little message at the end, haha. Keep it up, Kelly!

  9. I think there are some people that actually were convinced that life in North Korea is way better than South. I guess everyone has different point of view on "what is better life". North Korean government has their "unique" perspective of the world... They even built a luxurious ski resort and a hotel. Living in such conditions that North Korean citizens are living, no one can pay to go there. WHENEVER YOU FEEL USELESS, JUST REMEMBER: NORTH KOREA HAS A HOTEL ( which is very very useless in my point of view).
