"Stop playing and go outside!"

I bet that we have all heard a command similar to this one in various occasions. While we might get mad at our mom (or whoever said that to us), they are right. We need sunlight as much as we need food. Sunlight, as said in this video, helps our bones grow by giving us Vitamin D. The more time we spend outside, even if we don't do anything and just stay there, the healthier our bones will be. Now, you might think that by just being next to the window while texting, your bones will be benefited by sun rays, but no. While inside our house, we are normally sitting down and probably not doing anything active. Like the video says, sitting down can affect your body more than what you normally think. Sitting down can lead to type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease, not to mention higher mortality rate. So stand up and go walk your dog. Go out in the country and smell the fresh air. Connect with nature more and let the sun and all it's wonderful effects benefit you!

  1. I think its kind of ironic how this youtube video is telling us to go outside, yet it wants us to watch more videos like those. Anyway, I don't think that sitting down is related at all with mortality. You will die when your time comes, not because you were sitting down for too long. Yes, it might be healthier to go outside and it might be a thousand times better, but it won't kill you to stay inside

  2. The problem with this is that in countries like Guatemala, it's hard to go out and walk or just chill without your mom telling you that it's "too dangerous". If Guatemala were a bit safer, I would definitely go outside more. And I agree with Gaby's opening statement, good job Gaby.

  3. Even though I want to go outside and play, I just can't. If I want to go outside, I have to go to a mall or have to go with someone else. I think it id too dangerous to go outside alone in Guatemala. If I could, I would definitely go outside to play freely.

  4. I really enjoy being outside especially while I'm playing some kind of sport. Besides being more fun than certain console video games, they are certainly better for your health, and you get to interact with other people in real life, not virtually. In summation, I firmly agree with the title of this post; "Stop playing and go outside!"

  5. I'm not a person that goes out that often, but I have my moments where I really want to go out. Unfortunately, here in Guatemala, it's not that safe to go out by yourself. Now that I think about it, I should have take advantage when I lived in the U.S to go out. I visited different places but not that much.

  8. I think this is an excellent video because it gives an example of what would happen if people don't go outside frequently ( each day)

  11. I think this is a good video because it is teaching us to get out more and to be more active. To live life and to not just stay at home all day and be boring. But I have to be honest I need to start getting outside cause I'm always staying in my house on my Ipad more than not.

  12. Teenagers now a days don't go outside more often as before. I think going outside and walking is not only helpful for your health but helps you release stress. I miss going outside to play with my friends. Now a days we are just stuck on the Internet or on homework. It's sad how we don't get to appreciate the nature.

  13. It's very interesting that you bring this topic up Arielle. Many people are always saying, "You should get out more" or "You need to take a break from technology". However, how many people actually listen when they are told this? Actions speak louder than words so, in my opinion, I think we teenagers would get out more if we were encouraged, not lectured. Parents should devote their belief of teenagers getting out more by actually doing something like take away phones or ban watching TV. You have to get a teenager's attention for them to do something different.

  15. But...but...my mom doesn't like me go outside to play nor stay at home playing. She always wants me to study only. So, every time I decide to stay at home and play with my phone. I sometimes tell my mom that going out to spend time is good to reduce stress and for my health, but she just don't get it. She just wants me to study.
