Should We Save Endangered Species?

Although this may seem like a straightforward question with a straight forward answer, it is not. Two sides fight violently (verbally) against each other over this issue. The cost spent on organizations dedicated to the salvation of endangered animal species is becoming incredibly much to the concerns of those who do not innately experience sympathy for creatures that aren't human. With over 2,000 animals nearing extinction, how should we go about this issue?
Many people argue that we should allow nature to take it's natural course. It is not our duty to help those animals who cannot help themselves, besides, we're at the top of the foodchain, why should we care? Does our position at the top give us the go ahead for mass extermination though? A lot of the animal's are endangered because humans have encroached on their land, their homes, or, in the case of the whales, have been hunted to near extinction for their blubber. Although, personally, I'm not sure that we should save certain animals from extinction, it does seem our duty to fix what problems we have caused.
It is incredibly costly to save endangered species. Billions upon billions dollars go into building habitats and breeding programs. It seems that some cases just can't be helped. Those are the cases that should be abandoned. Survival of the fittest does need to play in somewhere (I'm looking at you, pandas).

So, should we do anything about this? or should we, collectively, say that animals should learn how to solve their own problems and save their own furry behinds?

This is an image of the last Thylacine. It died on the 7th of September in 1936, due to extreme neglect and abuse. The species became endangered due to bounties placed on their heads by British colonists in Australia.

Here is a compilation of the little bit of footage we have of the Thylacine.

  1. I think that we should not save endangered species. As you said, it is too expensive and there are too many animals in danger of extinction. It is impossible to save all of them and we are not even sure if the attempt to save them will be successful. We should just let animals be and not mess with their ecosystem.

  2. I think we should save endangered species. If we were endangered we would try to keep our species alive. I think we should make an effort to help animals. most endangered species are endangered because of us. We should try to make it right.

  3. Yes, we should save those endangered species. The only thing that humans have done is destroying or taking away everything from nature. We made many animals in extinct and even the plants. We have always been taking benefits for ourselves but not for others. We should try to stop destroying things and have things safe and sound.

  4. It might be sad to see animals be completely gone from the Earth, but I don't think it is 100% necessary to save the endangered species. People could try to help them out because humans are the cause of their state right now, but if it's nature's fault, we shouldn't sacrifice as much of our resources to save them.

  5. I think we should save the animals that are cute, just kidding. But this animal was really weird, it looked like a beaver, chinchilla, kangaroo, tiger, dog, zebra, werewolf and many more. Well that is all the animals I thought it looked like. I think it's creepy so im kinda glad it's gone or else we would have those creepy things roaming around.

  6. We should save endangered species, because they can have some type of medicine to help us stay alive

  7. Until we know everything about nature and ecosystems we should irrevocably change it.

  8. Wow, It seems like you have a lot of interest on animals. I see a lot of post about animals. Anyway, I never seen that animal but that animal looks more like dog with strips on it. I know that we should save animals but I have no idea how. :/

  9. Poor animals... The Thylacine (kinda sounds like the name of a pill) looked really cute. It would be expensive to help animals but it is our fault that they are becoming endangered... well, some of the animals anyway. It wouldn't be fair if animals made HUMANS endangered!

  10. It is rather expensive to save an endangered species however if people didn't hunt them in the first place maybe they would not be endangered. Animals can only do so much as people can only do so much. There could be restrictions on what animals you hunt and how much in order to prevent other species from becoming endangered.

  11. I really wish people would get some common sense. Or at least learn from their mistakes. People keep endangering animals and always seem to manage to kill them off. As an animal lover, this drives me crazy. I really wish everyone would man up and start saving animals and resist their strange urge to kill them.

  12. Of course we should protect endangered species. The sad part is that when we do this and we manage to get a reasonable number of them again. The hunt will yet again begin for these animals because they would no longer be endangered. Eventually they would yet again be endangered and cause a never ending cycle until we decide to find a different solution.

  13. I think we should save endangered species because it is a part of Earth's history. I think it's valuable enough to keep for our future generations. Even though the endangered species, such as pandas, don't do anything, not even try to reproduce, I think it's worth the money because it's valuable history of Earth.
