Panda Problem

We all love pandas. By we I mean most people, and by love I mean think are cute, and by pandas I mean the nice cartoon ones that aren't a complete waste of space. When someone says they love pandas they are, more often than not, referring to the nice cute cuddly ones that the media gives us.

Because of this love of "pandas", it seems as though everyone is overly concerned with their wellbeing. Every new panda born in captivity receives exuberant adoration and fanfare. Pandas are the symbol for the WWF (World Wildlife Foundation), and billions are dollars are spent keeping them alive each year. Everybody wants to save the pandas.

Herein lies the problem. Pandas are idiots. They have no natural predators in the wild, the have an abundance of food (bamboo), and they're still going extinct. The issue with pandas isn't that we're destroying their habitat or killing them rampantly. No. They just won't mate. The intimate problems of a panda's love life should not be our wallet's concern. The global economy is going down the toilet, aided by the heaps of cash we're burning attempting to save a species that does not deserve to be saved.

The pandas do not deserve our money, nor our time. It is not our fault that they're numbers are dwindling. Honestly, it sounds like a personal problem.

Die pandas.

  1. Dear pandas, you're cute and all, but loosleous has a point. After reading this I realized that pandas are kinda lame. I mean how could they go extinct when they have everything they need? Pointless pointless pandas. I agree with you Loosle.

  2. As usual, Gabbii, you have managed to lighten my day. I have never really cared about what's happening to pandas but this was some pretty interesting information. Unfortunately, my sister absolutely loves pandas and because I love my sister I don't want them to die. Plus, they are kind of cute.

  3. Oh Gaby, you've changed my whole perspective on pandas. I used to really like pandas before, but after a while that feeling of adoration for pandas just faded away. They don't seem to interest me anymore and I guess it is for the reason you stipulated. They are indeed idiots. They do nothing interesting and, therefore, should all die.

  4. I guess its true that pandas are kind of a waste of space. I think it is true that the reason we care so much is because of cultural significance, and all those cute panda videos. It would still be kind of sad if they went extinct, I mean if we pour a bunch of money into saving the pandas then they still die that would be heartbreaking. I guess if pandas died it would help destroy that circle of life stuff which would be bad. I still find pandas cute...

  5. I never imagined this was the cause for these animals to become extinct. I always thought we were destroying their habitats and that's why we needed to help such a species survive. I agree with what you said. However, if people really don't want pandas in existence, we must find out what is the root of these "unusual" behaviors making these animals decrease in population, not because of us, but because of themselves.

  6. I love pandas, but I agree with Loosle. Even though they all look cute and adorable, it is true that they are wasting our money. I think paying to save the Pandas since they are not much of them, is not worth our money. I agree that there should be Pandas, but I don't agree that we should pay a lot of money only to save them. Pandas should get babies.

  7. My sentiments exactly. The same thing is happening with sloths. And although there are a few activists, there isn't nearly enough hype for sloths than there are for pandas. The only reason people care about pandas is because they're cute and asian. Btw, I didn't even read your post.

  8. I agree because they do nothing to survive and do nothing actually useful, other than eating our bamboo trees. I think Chinese government invests so much money because it's their mascot but I don't really think it's worth the investment.

  9. That´s so sad, normally any species would mate and try to survive because even animals do not want to die, so it is weird that the pandas don´t mate even if they have everything they need. I think pandas are cute but this is really interesting and you do have a point but still I guess people love pandas too much to let them die even if they are not reproducing.

  10. First of all, I would like to point something out: Aren't pandas supposed to be living in a sort of reservation in China? Because I think that's why they don't have any predators. Although you make an interesting point in that they don't reproduce. Maybe THAT much money shouldn't be spent on them.

  11. I can't tell if this was serious or sarcastic. I can never really tell with Gabbii though. Those are some pretty good points, but I would have never really known about this if you hadn't posted it. I don't actually love pandas, and I really dont get why everyone loves them. Sure I think its sad that they aren't mating or whatever, but I don't care at all really. They can go be pandas or whatever.

  12. I agree, Pandas are killing themselves. If pandas are basically 'hitting themselves repeatedly' 'holding their hands' will not solve anything. We must let nature take its course whether that is their survival or not.
