Poetry, Poetry and More Poetry

As everyone knows, the Poetry Slam is tomorrow. Everywhere you look people are practicing and memorizing their poems or diligently working at decorations. Some people like poems and some people don't. Some people have no problem standing up in front of everyone and reciting a poem while others and scared to death.
Still, that doesn't mean we can't make the best of it. Just remember, everyone is going to be up there just like you. Just take a deep breath and enjoy yourself. Enjoy sharing your poem and enjoy other people's poems. It's okay to be nervous, just don't let it consume you. This year, you won't be getting up on stage. It will be a lot more personal and comfortable.
A lot of work has gone into this Slam so appreciate it! Many students have tirelessly worked at creating and putting up the decorations. Take the time to pay someone a compliment!
Don't dread the Slam. Not only is it a form of entertainment, you'll learn special life skills such as public speaking. And don't forget we're getting out of class...
So, take a deep breath, smile and have fun. Plus, we're getting food. Who could have a problem with that?
What's your favorite or least favorite thing about the Poetry Slam? Are you looking forward to it or dreading it?

  2. The poetry slam today was AWESOME! I really enjoyed the fact that everyone stood up and presented their magnificent poems in front of the high school community. There were some really great poems, songs, and others were extremely funny as well. I'm glad I was able to be part of the poetry slam this year!

  3. Wow! Finally! The Poetry Slam is done and let me tell you that it was really awesome. This is my first time being in a Poetry Slam and I really like it. All the poems were really good and awesome and they rocked! Congratulations everyone, you did an awesome job. I was really nervous, but at least my voice didn't crack (at least, that's what I think). Once again, all the performances were really cool. Congratulations!

  4. Yeah praise the lord it's over. It's a bit scary standing up there and preforming. It was a lot of fun though and I actually ended up enjoying myself after getting over my nerves.

  6. I thought this year's poetry slam was really interesting. We had snack time and we had a lot inspiration poems from the teachers. I was really nervous because I was the first act and Ms. Justice was watching us... But I think this year's poetry slam was special and I liked it.
