"Look Up"

I know that several people have seen this video, if not more. It has been circling around social networks so it's hard to not have seen it. In this video, a man explains how the world is as we know it in terms of technology. This video was eye-opening. It was interesting to watch as the man explained how much we use and rely on technology and how much we are missing. He shows what might have happened if you only looked up.
How many times have we decided to not go outside or go out with our families because we wanted to sit in front of the computer? How many relationships or conversations have we missed out on? We make choices everyday and sometimes choosing technology might not be the best one.
I personally believe that it is good to cut down on our use of technology. Still, technology is a good thing to have and utilize. I believe we should all find our middle ground so that we can still enjoy technology but we can also enjoy life going on around us. You never know what you might have missed by only paying attention to the tablet in front of your eyes. Can you think of a time when you wished that you would have shut down the computer or put away the phone and just enjoyed life?

  1. I really loved this video. While I am not sure it will make a worldwide impact, I sure hope it will possibly change some lives. I loved where he said, "Give people your love, not your like." I think that really rings true because honestly in the end, what does a "like" even mean--when you could be actually developing friendships and relationships? I really hope that this continues to be viral because more people need to hear it. While I don't doubt technology is an incredible thing, I think sometimes there should be a line where enough is enough.

  2. Oh my goodness!! That is so true. Almost all the time I see my friends in their computers or phones. They never go outside and enjoy there life. I think that the phones are necessary in some cases, but not always. Phones and computers destroys our real life.

  3. I agree with Michelle that phones and computers are necessary in some cases but when you really have to use them for something really important or talk to someone to say something very important. Don't use computers for a waste of time or phones for a waste of time. This video is so true of what is happening right now with the world.

  4. I would really agree, even though i am one of the ones that use their phones almost all the times. However, people tend to use their phones in situations where one is uncomfterble. And thats one of the reasons why i do it. When i with friends However, i do not even touch my phone, only to check out the time.

  5. I first watched this video on Wednesday, while going through my Facebook news feed. I didn't expect the video to be that good, but it left me inspired. Now, I actually think twice before using any electronic device, and I make use of them only when I really need them. This video even inspired me to write an expository essay for our Writer's Workshop class with regards to this topic. And it couldn't be more true: technology is unfortunately taking control of our lives.

  6. Wow, this video is truly inspirational! It's funny, because these days people always complain about how kids don't go outside anymore or talk to anyone and they imply the fact that our generation is messed up. Though, this man put all these things people are saying about technology in a poetic form. Because of his way of talking about technology, it made me think he was completely right since he used a great visual to show us what we're missing out on.

  7. The part that he says that when he was a child he was always out, but now parks are empty and swings are still really hit home. I loved my childhood and I could barely even use the computer. Now I see my little cousins, with smartphones and iPads at their reach, who groan whenever I take them to play basketball with me. But how will they know what they're missing out on if they've never experienced it before?

  8. That was a cool poem, but i've never been a fan of all those "technology is making us alone etc." poems. Like when he mentioned the park bit. While its a cool visual, I still see plenty of kids in parks and playing. Plus when you compare playing on an ipad to getting shot up or dealing drugs in parks, I think playing flappy bird is the smarter option. Also, when kids don't want to go outside, even if they don't have ipads and stuff, we still find a way. Same goes with being social. I remember once I saw an old photo where a bunch of people were on a bus, back in the forties. Instead of the picture being some sort of 1940s bus party, with everybody talking, they were all reading the newspaper. Its not technology its us.

  9. I watched this video in my house on a sunday afternoon and of course I was busy playing with my iphone instead of being with my family. But once i finished watching the video i shut down my phone and went to help my mother with supper. And indeed I had more fun with my mom then on my iphone.I was wasting time with my iphone and now i prefer to be in a conversation than on my phone.

  10. This video is really important and very persuasive. The fact that technology is taking a lot of tie from our lives is really important to know and that it is distracting us from what is really happening in the world is just scary and amazing how people do not notice this. I think people should have a limit of how much time they use their technology and how they manage their time better.

  11. I so agree with this video. Everything the guy says it so true. We are controlled by technology now. Every day, I always see my big sisters on their phones while they can be doing something productive. I don't have a phone and I'm proud to say that because I'm still living life instead of staring at a screen all day. There are just so many more things you can do instead of being on your phone. You can go and read a book, play with you sibling outside, or go on a picnic or something. I just love going outside to the REAL world and breathing fresh, clean (as much as possible) air. Great video!

  12. This video is just amazing. He really makes me think about how much time I spend on the computer. I was never a very social person, but I guess being in front of a screen 24/7 isn't helping either. If only I could learn how to stop.

  13. This video was just a reiteration of what a lot of people have said. I saw it a while back, but had to stop watching when it got too cheesy. Good for this british guy for writing a poem, but it's a romantic notion to believe that in this digital era people would ever listen. Not to mention the ironic fact I saw it chain posted on facebook from another time draining site that causes you to look down. It's a futile attempt to inspire activity in an inactive generation.

  14. Hmm, to a certain extent, this guy has a point. I don't believe though that technology has completely destroyed our lives. May I remind you that it is this that has made it possible for us to communicate with people who are in different countries and made it possible for us to reconnect with some old friends. It's not all bad, but sometimes it may be overused, and that is the real problem here.

  15. This poem was really cool, it also remained me that I need to memorize my poem hehehe. This poem is just saying what society has become. Unfortunately, most of the time people has a screen on their faces. I remember when I was I child that I spent most of the day outdoors, playing with my friends and enjoying the day during vacations. Kids of nowadays spend most of their time indoors playing with their tablets, they even have smart phones and they are only 10 years old. I think that we have drawn purposely in this technological wave. Still, I don't think its that bad as he states but we have to admit that its taking a big part of our life.
