Irtra Petapa

On Thursday, May 8th, as most of you know, the eighth grade went to Irtra Petapa. We went to learn about acceleration, velocity, speed, distance, time, average acceleration, average speed, and other scientific things that related to the roller coasters. Thanks to some help from Ms. Vary, other students' help, and our persuasiveness, we were able to convince Mr. Sanders that we should go to Irtra Petapa because we don't really ever go on field trips. He was then able to convince Mr. Justice and Mr. Jorge that going to Irtra would be safe, and we'd behave, and how beneficial it would be to our learning. We left on a Thursday, and had lots of fun. We probably could have had more fun if there weren't all those schools there and the super long lines (we only got to go on 3 rides, when we had to go on about 6 rides) but we had a great time. Some people were freaking out a little bit on the Rascacielos where you sit and go up very high and get dropped. We screamed a little bit, and freaked out, and laughed, and talked a lot, and complained about how they left us there for a long time then dropped us out of no where. But we had an awesome time, with Ms. Vary and Mr. White.
Now enjoy this picture of us at Irtra with popsicles.

  1. Most of the students and I are very jealous of you eighth graders. It's pretty cool that they actually let you go, and I'm glad you all had fun! The question though is, did you learn anything? ;) Haha I am pretty sure that while you were freaking out at the top of the rascacielos you were thinking about acceleration and velocity and all that scientific stuff, right? :P

  2. That is so not fair!! We haven't gone to any field trip recently!!! And you guys went to Irta Petapa?? Noway... I'm so jealous of you guys... However, I don't think it was good idea to go Irta Petapa for "study" those velocity, speed, acceleration and those stuff. Anyway, it seems like you guys had fun.

  3. It's cool beans you guys got to go to Petapa. What's bad is that I doubt any of you could ride the water-based rides. Those are pretty fun. And I sincerely hope all of you went on the bumper cars, that's the best part of any amusement park. Forget the wieghtless feeling. Forget falling x amount of feet at y mph. Being given a car and legal consent to thrash anybody who gets in your way is pure gold. Not to mention cars would've been a great way to measure accelaration, which is what I hope you 8th graders were looking for

  4. The 8th grade is really lucky in this sense. They got to go to Irtra Petapa while we were stuck in school studying. It must have been interesting, though, to study these physics terms while visiting a theme park. Nonetheless, I'm pretty sure they went there for the fun of it, not to actually learn a lot about acceleration, velocity, speed, etc.

    1. Roberto, I'd like to clearly invalidate your premise to this topic. First off, we did NOT go just to have fun. As joyful as in sounds, we were able to go to this amusement park if, and only if, we learn and intermingle with educational terms; in this case physics. Anyways, it was fun, both the fact that we had fun and how we incorporated education with it. How awesome is that? Having fun AND learning. Great for us and the school. I'll be humble with the fact that we went and i'll clearly say, I hope you get to go too.

  5. Man, you guys are really clever for making Irtra as an idea for a field trip. It was very creative and it's cool how you guys took advantage of this field trip to spend precious time by going somewhere fun. You have inspired me to come up with creative ideas for field trips. Unfortunately, I will have to wait until next year to come up with a field trip idea.

  6. Well done you guys! Kudos on speaking up, planning ahead and clearly, writing out your thoughts into a paper, and presenting it to "higher authority" you could say. I think that is great! It gives me ideas as well for future things. I'm glad you had fun. :)

  7. Wow! I heard about this, and I was very surprised you were able to go! So, congratulations! And like Lacey said, kudos to you! I bet it was not only educational but entertaining! It's too bad though that you could only go on 3 rides. Still, that's a huge accomplishment, so you should be proud of yourselves that you were able to get permission in the first place! Maybe we can have a school field trip with everybody! That would be cool! :)

  8. You guys are so lucky! I would have loved if the school would have taken us on a field trip like that. The field trips we when to were not always interesting. I can´t believe that you were able to convince them. I am very jealous of you guys, but I am also very happy. I am happy you had a create time, Irtra is very fun.

  9. You know what, count yourself lucky, we(the ninth grade) don't go to field trips what so ever, and you guys go but you just don't go to any field trips, you go to amusement parks and stuff like that so count yourself lucky. Hope you had fun.

  10. I love this field trip to much! We had such a great time and we learned a lot. (We had more fun actually) I know that this memory the whole class will carry on until we graduate because it we was such an awesome experience. It was such a great experience and on the Rascacielos it was awesome (except Rebecca's screams... just kidding) and almost all of the class got the chance to go on it.

  12. I think we really need to thank a couple of people here aka, Ms. Alycia, Ms. Vary, and Marcia for helping persuade Mr. Sanders. I do think our enthusiasm, motivation, and effort to make this happen helped. It took us a lot of time to come up with valid arguments that proved how educational this would be, but once Mr. Sanders was convinced it took 15 minutes to get fully approved.

  13. I had so much fun in Irtra Petapa! It was probably the best field trip I've ever gone to. I do thank Ms. Alycia, Ms. Vary, and Marcia for persuading Mr. Sanders and Mr. Justice. I do think that we did learn about the acceleration etc. I think we should go to Irtra Petapa as a school at the end of the year. I think it would be amazing if we did.

  14. That was such a fun day, also I think this could be a change for our learning experience. If we just come up with a place to go and how we learn from it then we can go on more field trips

  15. i had so much fun with you all! it was my first time ever on a roller coaster and it wasn't so bad!i love you all! and thank you so much to the higher powers for giving us permission.

  16. This was the scariest experience ever! i went on the Rasca Cielos when i am scared of a goofy roller coaster. Lets just say that i felt like dying... no im kidding. I am so glad i went. I love u 8th graders!

  17. This is so unfair, and clever at the same time. We seniors studying physics could've gone to iltra, however we couldn't since Mr.Sara didn't think this type of fieldtrip would be aproved. We could've gone while studying the laws of motion. Ha.... Next year seniors give it a try !!

  18. Seniors went to a field trip the same day to a turbine factory as well. When I saw the school bus going to Irtra Petapa, I envied you, but we had fun in the turbine factory. It was full of interesting sight. It's good that you enjoyed your field trip, and we should go to a field trip more frequently.

  19. The IRTRA field trip was extremely fun. I think we might've started a new equity tradition. It was really cool calculating all the speed and acceleration of the rides. We did a great job of convincing the authorities. YOUR WELCOME.
