Homework!

To most of us homework is our nemesis! Homework has now been around over hundreds of years, and somehow, we students still can’t manage to defeat the number one nemesis. Homework is a material representation of a White Shark or King Cobra. Like these animals, Homework attacks with no previous warning. Some of us get around it easily and manage to change it into classwork, or schoolwork. But the people who don’t, have to suffer and sacrifice their precious free time in order to get through this wild untamable beast!

Homework can be long or short, worth it or not, and hard or easy. But one thing homework will never stop being is, a pain in the neck. But it’s not homework itself what made me write this, but the incredible way in which some people manage to get through this abolishment to student community. There are days in which my eyes witness how people finish their work five minutes before class, or even less! It is incredible how the human brain can undergo with pressure and manage to finish a five hour assignment in ten-fifteen minutes.

I ask myself, how can people finish homework before class? My point in all of this is to ask how can homework still be around if we are capable of finishing such thing in such short time? Are we bound to finish homework fast only under a lot of pressure? Or can we exceed our brain capacity and manage to tame this pressure so we can use it every time, to finish our work? Homework, our nemesis!

  1. You are right! homework is a total pain! It is defiantly amazing how some people can finish a long homework in only 5 minutes, just before the bell rings! I am positive I wouldn't be able to finish all my homework in so little time.

  2. I have written a 1,333 about homework. I guess it is not necessary... It is considered as a "tool" for your development of learning, but I think it is a tool to make people, teacher, student, and parents, tortured. Think about it, students produce work, teachers have to grade them, when your parents sees your grade, they get shocked. You see, it is not only students' nemesis, it is everybody's. But I agree that we can finish our work in class... (exception: math and history)

  3. This is so true. People who finish their homework under pressure always get better grades. However, it does not matter when you do it. What really matters is the content of your work and whether your learned or not, because homework is practice and understanding.

  5. I HATE HOMEWORK!!! It is sooo stressful! But like Lucy says, I seem to work better under pressure, specially when having to email the book report before midnight!

  6. This post is particularly funny, since the person who wrote it is a work freak nowadays! However I noticed that work, no matter what type, physical or mental, can always have a boost when under pressure or extreme stress. But that's just me.

  9. Jorge, but sometimes working ahead can be detrimental! Remember in Mr. Rutherford's class, when you had finished the classwork, packet, and all the other work in the rest of the classes, and he made you come up with a "fun" project to work on??? Or when Ms. Sara skips a problem set that you already spent a lot of time working on??? Now that sucks...

    tuRuRu... :D

  10. I have to say, I've gotten a bad case of junioritis this past month, if that even exists haha. Before, I wasn't that bugged by homework. I don't know what has happened to me nowadays, but there are times when I'm seriously annoyed by the amount of homework that I have, especially because it takes me hours to complete just one task. I realized that the reason why I felt this way towards homework was because I want to do other things way more. I want to play basketball, to run, to read books upon books upon books, to learn JJ songs, and to finally eat breakfast. I'm sick of having to cut down on those activities, or not do them at all, because of my inefficiency at doing homework, plus the sheer amount of it.

  11. I agree to Adriana, homework are SO STRESSFUL!!!! They are the worst invention of humans. I would go and argue with the creator of "homework".
Anyway, I think it is extra work for the teachers and students. So I'd say that teachers should give less homework if they don't like grading.. Because nobody likes working... do we? Once, when we were grading our history test, I argued that it was so cruel if you grade your own test, but Mr. Rutherford said he stayed up about 4:30, grading.

  12. Here is the thing though, the simple act of doing homework not only to fill each and everyone of us with something to do, No! its more than that. It is a way to get each and everyone of in the habit of working, because if we lose that habit we would become less responsible in a way. Think about it, why do you think that the first settlers at Virginia almost wiped out, because they refused to work since their country of origin, they most likely had servants or slaves that did their work. This could be a reason to why we have to have homework, to avoid becoming lazy, because if we are, their are will be consequences. A lion has to hunt for its food, rarely will it food just come up to it and say "Eat me!"

FINALLY someone knows how to express this in words.
I love it how homework is such an ironic thing. specially as not only we hate it, but teachers and parents do also! XD

  15. Lucy, I personally think that homework is more stressful than a test! Well, maybe now that I think about it, actually you´re right. ´Cause during homework, the stress is because of getting it done, but you can use the book, ask whoever you want, and take your time. But now, for a test you have to have studied all the night before, trying to cram all that information into your head, and then the day of the test try to remember it all. You can´t ask anyone, you can´t use the book (in most cases), and you only have a certain amount of time to complete it in. But tests don´t stress me out nearly as much as homework since we don´t have that many that often.
