Students Face to Face with Opposition at Community Board Meeting

Hey guys! For this week's post, I've decided to show you a video that I came across. Students start speaking up for themselves and their education while the adults are "bickering and yelling", as mentioned in the video. It really shows how much importance teenagers our age are giving to their education, and it is refreshing to actually see them fight for what they want and fight for change, being responsible and mature kids. Some adults in this video on the other hand are acting like children if I do say so myself. Check the video out for yourself and let me know what you think! Do you think meetings like these genuinely help the school change for better?

  1. I think I understand what they are talking about, but it seems a bit too dubious still. I think they are talking about white kids studying at the same school as black kids. I don't really see how this matters for any type of student. I don't really think that there are types of students, I just need the term for my comment. There are many people that are in desperate need of an education. The world needs more people with an education and is it so frustrating to see so many racist people wanting to take the little education they can have, away.

  2. It really got on my nerves and angered me how that woman was screaming at both students that were standing up for themselves. It bothers me that adults don't understand how important education is for the students. I wanted to wipe off that smile on the woman! Those "adults" were disrespectful and childish. It makes me happy that students stand up for themselves and how the principle lets them have a say in the meeting.

  3. that was annoying! that old lady has no right to yell at that senior. I still didnt understand why they were arguing, like i understand that they were fighting for an education but against what?

  4. I am not completely sure of what they are arguing about. From what I got the girl is older than most people in high school and she is being judged. Regardless of the topic, it is nice to see students stand up for themselves. Everybody deserves a chance and everybody should be heard.

  5. oh wow, this almost made me cry. I'm not sure why, but I do admire what these seniors did. It definitely requires a lot of courage to speak up for yourself, especially how the girl did it. I think that this proves that age does not define maturity or intelligence. She and Kevin knew better what was best for them than the other lady who kept complaining.

  6. This is a crystal-clear episode of present-day racism. As a matter of fact, it isn't just demonstrating racism, it's demonstrating "ageism." Why are the students not allowed to speak up when they want to see a change and adults can do the same with no trace of a problem? Why do certain people consider themselves superior to others simply because of their race, ethnicity, birthplace, or even age? This has to change, and it has to change soon because it is not making any positive contribution to our "modern" society.

  7. That would terrifying to stand up against elders in your community and fight for what you want and believe is right. I applaud these students who were willing to take the initiative and go after their education. I hope that everything worked out for them and that this school continued to help students get an education and become mature, respectful adults.

  8. The students here showed great courage when they stood up for themselves and when they stood up for their school. Students should not be discriminated for any reason and this is video tells us that students don't have to sit down and watch it happen.
