I found this surprising photo by reading korean internet news. A Mexican man named Enrique Lucero León is a fisherman who caught this shark and posted the photo on his Facebook. Researcher Felipe Galvan Magana said, "This is extremely rare. As far as I know, less than 50 examples of an abnormality like this have been recorded."
This cyclops fetus was born from a bull shark caught in the Gulf of California beginning of this year. This one-eyed shark was born with a cyclopia and is a rare congenital disorder that causes a brain to stay a whole instead of having two distinct hemispheres.
Do you think that this cyclops shark is still alive?

This cyclops shark looks very creepy!! And it looks dead. I don't think anybody will grab it that way if it wasn't dead!!
ReplyDeleteOh and it reminds me about mike from Monsters Inc.
Wow that is creepy. I admit I didn't believe you at first I thought it was fake like from the movie Monsters Inc, but I guess not. I think it is dead just because I have never heard of a one eyed shark before. Cool Picture first
ReplyDeleteThis animal is so motivating, i mean it is amazing to see that there are still many creatures and species that we do not really know about! The world is still too big to humans and i just feel like going out to the world and find more mysteries like this creature.
ReplyDeleteThis cyclops shark is definitely dead. I find it very interesting that the fisherman actually took a photo of his catch and uploaded on the web. I would have expected for a contemporary fisherman to just throw the dead creature back in the water and gather no evidence for this rare case. It was a good thing that he posted his fished cyclops shark, so that scientists today can analyze and be aware that a disease like this, still exists among sea creatures.
ReplyDeletehaha! This "shark" looks like me in last year's spring program: Mike Wasawski!!! It only needs to be a little bit "greener!!!!!" No, but let's get serious. I think it's really amazing. I mean, who would imagine there's a cyclops shark. To me, it seems a little bit like Greek mythology. It'd be awesome though, if there were a monster, that freaky, and also with one eye, that lived in a small, dangerous island. I think I have to continue dreaming a little bit more...

ReplyDeleteWow. That looks like one of the Monsters Inc. monsters. Although I have heard about cyclopian mutation, it is still creepy to actually think that a normal fisherman caught while fishing like any other normal day. What is even more surprising, is that that creature is actually a shark. Doesn't look like one.
ReplyDeleteIt's very cool to know that there are some unknown types of fishes out there that we still haven't found. I hope that another fisherman would find another specie. I also had never heard about cyclopia. It's sad to think that there are some other dozens of fishes with that disease.
ReplyDeleteThis is an awesome "discovery" People don't really find things like this very often. Me Seeing this "shark" is like i'm looking at a piece of flower with an artificial eye. It doesn't really look that real.
ReplyDeleteThis is amazing! I wonder why this poor shark was born this way. I guess the my immediate response is pollution, but you never know. In response to Kye Ri's question, I think that the shark is dead, seeing as how sharks need water to breathe and that shark is not in the water anymore.
ReplyDeleteIn a way this shark looks cute. but in a way looks disgusting. This shark is pretty cool :) Where and how did the fisher found this amazing shark! I wonder how much this shark cost. It'll cost a lot i guess.
ReplyDeleteWow, that is so cool. To even think that there are rare specimens in the world. now imagine if only less than 50 abnormal animals have been discovered, how many must be unfound? I think this shark is dead, well it looks dead.
ReplyDeleteI think it look dead, but any of the specie that looks like him might be alive. I wonder how a shark can become one-eyed... So far, I haven't seen a person with one eye, so I'm kind of astonished by it.
ReplyDeleteIt is so fake it's not even funny. The skin appears to be made out of some kind of dough. The eye might be real but that is the only thing that might have alive at some point. A one eyed shark is definitely possible. The possibility of one being born that way and a person actual finding that shark(it's a big ocean out there) is almost nil. I have to admit if somebody surgically made a cyclops shark that would be cool.
ReplyDeleteThat shark is too weird, I've never see anything like it. In some part is kind of freaking, imagine you were swimming and suddenly you see that. What would you do?
ReplyDeleteThe eye doesn't look like fisheyes, but it looks so human's and its tongue also!! It looks so creepy and I agree with Gio that it might be fake, but it wasn't the shark would be dead. It already looks dead in the picture.
ReplyDeleteGabriel that is exactly what it looks like mike from Monsters Inc.
ReplyDeletewell i say it does not look anything like a shark and i doubt that it is one, since it has the characteristics of a shark but at the same time the one eye and no teeth makes it look not real or photoshoped
ReplyDeleteThats a shark well that a tiny shark .
ReplyDeleteoh but he is so cute he's like a cartoon i want one!!!
wow the ocean has everything even mermaids i bet!!!
that shark looks like mike wasauski of monsters inc. That thing is so wierd
ReplyDeleteI think is a little baby mounter, really I don't know that is it
ReplyDeleteHonestly I don't think it is alive... My argument, the shark was captured and killed to be inspected but I can't tell. I haven't read the other comments to see if it is alive. On the other hand, this is cool! I would like to have one like this in my room, that way during the night it would swim by and stare at me with that huge eye! Hahahahahaha! XD
