A Strange Coincidence

"If it can be written, or thought, it can be filmed."- Stanley Kubric

In the 60's my dad went to the movie theater and watched "Spartacus". This event had a great impact on my life. My dad decided that if he ever had a daughter he would name her just like Spartacus' wife. Years later, I was born and named as Spartacus' wife. For many years of my life I had no idea what my name meant, but I always knew where my name came from and who had directed the movie.

Who would've thought that the director of that movie would become one of my favorite directors of all times?

All my life I've been a movie fan and I was always fascinated with the making of them. A year ago, I found myself with the opportunity to work on a commercial as a production assistant, it was awesome. After this experience and helping out some friends with other short films, I decided I wanted to be a filmmaker.

The whole process of making a movie is chaotic and exhausting. It involves creativity, imagination, collaboration and thrusting others. It's a lot of people working together for one thing only, the film. After working for 10 days, 13 hours a day, and sleeping almost anywhere you can, you only want to go back to your own bed and never do this again. However, when you see the results of what you so arduously worked for you just can't wait to go again on other filmmaking adventure. What can I say, it's just addictive.

  2. That is awesome. I wish my dad saw a Mission Impossible or the last Samurai and named me Josh Cruise. I remember seeing Star Wars Episode one when I was 8 and I was so sad that I was getting too old to become a Jedi. Movies and the people who film them do change you. I guess i'll just become a sith.

  3. its really cool that you have made short films! When you see a movie, you only focus on the final product, but you never actually stop to think how hard a large group of people worked to get it done. I have never seen Spartacus, but I'm sure its pretty good.

  4. I agree with Pablo. We usually don't realize how much work people put into movies to make them awesome. Probably the best movie or series of movies I've seen is Toy Story. I wonder how much time it took Disney and Pixar to do such magnificent work.

  5. I really don't like movies, but I have to admit that all the people involved in the movie-making process are pure geniuses. Not as much the acted films, but more the animated ones, like ALL the Pixar movies, for example. They are sooo well made, and its amazing how advanced technology is to be able to do these things. But like every other masterpiece, it takes a lot of time and dedication...

  6. You know, I never expected you to be a Filmmaker the first day I saw you. But I think it's cool because we get the opportunity to work on programs related to your career. Also I am a big fan of Spartacus and It didn't occur to me that, thats where your name came from.

  7. I think that filming is like art, because in both you have to create something that it's beautiful. In art you paint and everything you paint its art. That happen to filming you create art with something real by filming.

  8. I think if one is doing something that they think is valuable, when they finish the work, they feel proud. I love working with Photo Shop, and when I finish making a picture or a part of presentation with it, I feel proud and I search for more to do. I think when somebody is doing a thing they enjoy, they just forget about the pain they had and enjoy it. :) I really think filmmaking is cool...

  9. I love the quote at the end! It is so true. Film may be a lot of work but it is worth seeing the beauty of what computers could make out of simple footage.
