Anyway, I know that most of you are not from here and you probably don't really know much about our culture and studying in Equity doesn't really help because there are only a few Guatemalans in this school. Let me tell you a little bit about us, but I'm going to share something from one deparment. (For those of you who don't know what that is, it's like a state in the U.S. We just call them deparments instead of states over here.) It's going to be the deparment of Huehuetenango, also called Huehue.
In Huehue, every year, they celebrate what is known as the "Fiestas Julias" (July Parties) which are, ofcourse, in July. They last a whole week. During this week, there are a bunch of parades from all the local schools. First is the kinder parade, then the elementary parade, and so they go until high school. The kids are dressed up as a wide variety of things. They go from flowers to superheroes and from apples to to cheerleaders while the high school students present their bands. These students walk all around town for the entire morning which is very exhausting, but they all enjoy it very much.
