What we have here is a stop motion animation which shows the history of western culture over the last 3,000 years or so. However, it shows that history through the various hairstyles of women (or at least one woman).
Can you draw any interesting conclusions based on what you see here?
I think she had thicker layer of makeup 2000 years ago than she did 1000 years ago.
ReplyDeleteThis video is really awsome, showing how women style, hair style, changes over time. also make up, they started using it very early.
ReplyDeleteYou're totally right Ji Ye! I wonder how historically accurate her makeup is. If it is very accurate, I wonder how and why the Egyptians started using so much eyeshadow. Either way, it looks really cool.
ReplyDeleteIt seems to me that Korean women use very little makeup. Am I correct in my assumption?
I thought that it was interesting that at the very end, she just left her hair wet and didn't fix any particular hairstyle. Maybe that was to represent how women fix their hair in this decade.
ReplyDeleteIt was very interesting that you put this video up. The different hairstyles could show how we became more civilized over time. I also wondered How long it would have taken them to make each hairstyle. It must have taken a lot of time & effort
ReplyDeleteIt is actually interesting to see how the trends change over time. I think trends can even change a day to the next, which makes humans irritate on their styles. It would be interesting to see the change of trends on last 30 years. (Wasn't there lots of changes during the last 30 years?)
ReplyDeleteAnyway, It would be interesting to see it with different clothing styles too.
In LA, I visited the LACMA and I saw this on mannequins with paper clothes, but it was interesting to see how women's clothing changed over time!
Has anyone else noticed that as the "time" goes, her hair keeps getting longer and shorter. Also her skin becomes tanned or paler, depending where she was supposed to be in time.
ReplyDeleteKorean women are not the same so I think it depends on each women.
ReplyDeleteI think your comment is very insightful, Min Hee. It seems that each culture is always penduluming from one extreme to the next. I've noticed that the style of the 80s was very much in-your-face, multi-accessoried, whereas the 90's emphasized simplicity.
ReplyDeleteMr. AB: I think not all Korean women use light make up or heavy make up but I think it just depends on the person and the trend. I think it just depends on the trend and person's personality. Usually, I think, nationalities don't matter on your make up thickness... (In my opinion, because my friends wear thick eye make up and my mom usually wears light make up... and I just think it depends on you...) Well,I would leave it as "it varies" but it depends on everybody's thinking.. that is just my opinion... :)
